Cirque du Soleil returns to Atlanta with its production of Totem. It's under the big top at Atlanta Station.
Totem is the 10th Cirque du Soleil big top touring show to visit the area since 1991. Several other Cirque shows have visited local arenas.

"Totem traces the fascinating journey of the human species from its original amphibian state to its ultimate desire to fly," the press release about the show noted. "The characters evolve on a stage evoking a giant turtle, the symbol of origin for many ancient civilizations. Inspired by many founding myths, Totem illustrates through a visual and acrobatic language, the evolutionary progress of species. Somewhere between science and legend, Totem explores the ties that bind Man to other species, his dreams and his infinite potential."
Nelson's News on wsbtv.com attended the show's final dress rehearsal. The show is now open to the public.
Just like the Cirque du Soleil shows before it, Totem features a number of those "how did they do that" moments.

The production has visited more than 14 cities in 4 countries and performed in front of more than 1.5 million spectators.
The show is slated to remain in Atlanta through Dec. 28. There are shows on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8 p.m. There are two shows on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. There's one at 4 p.m. and one at 8 p.m. On Sunday, there's a 1 p.m. show and a 5 p.m. show.
