Kick off the first weekend in December by adding some entertainment to your schedule.

Whether you're participating in an Ugly Sweater Run or enjoying the soulful songs of Andra Day, here are five ways to make the most of your weekend in metro Atlanta:

"A Christmas Story"

"A Christmas Story" debuted at the Fox Theatre this week. Based on the 1983 holiday film of the same name, the musical will stop at the venue Nov. 29-Dec. 4. The production premiered on Broadway in 2012.

Various times. Through Dec. 4. $33.50-$93.50. Fox Theatre, 660 Peachtree St., Atlanta. www.foxtheatre.org.

Ugly Sweater Run

Get into the Christmas spirit by gathering your friends and heading to Piedmont Park for the Ugly Sweater Run. Wear the ugliest sweater imaginable for the run, which is approximately three miles. Once you’ve crossed the finish line, there will be an opportunity to ride a mechanical reindeer and take photos in a giant snow globe.

Noon. Dec. 3. $30, free (children 5 and under). Piedmont Park, along 10th Street and Piedmont Avenue in Atlanta. Theuglysweaterrun.com.

Andra Day

AJC music reporter Melissa Ruggieri gave her stamp of approval to R&B singer Andra Day's "soul-stirring" concert at Center Stage in Atlanta earlier this year. The singer will return with covers that serve as tributes to the artists who inspired her, as well as songs such as "Rise Up," from her debut album "Cheers to the Fall" in December.

8 p.m. Dec. 3. $30. Tabernacle, 152 Luckie St., Atlanta. Tabernacleatl.com.

Children’s Christmas Parade

Witness the largest holiday parade in the Southeast and a 35-year-old Atlanta tradition this December. The Children’s Christmas Parade features balloons, floats, Santa Claus and more.

Bring a folding chair to sit along the parade route or watch from your couch as it unfolds live on WSB-TV.

The parade will kick off on Dec. 3 at 10:30 a.m., traveling from Peachtree Street and 16th Street and ending at Peachtree Street and 5th Street.

10:30 a.m. Dec. 3. Free. Peachtree Street and 16th Street. Choa.org/parade.

Star 94.1’s Jingle Ball

Pop crooners James Bay and Charlie Puth will join groups Train and X Ambassadors for a concert that pop music fans are sure to love this December. Celebrate the holiday season with current and popular #throwback love songs.

7 p.m. Dec. 4. $27-$97. Infinite Energy Center, 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway, Duluth. Star941atlanta.com.
