Ever since the state legislature enacted tax incentives to lure Hollywood, Georgia is teeming with filmmakers. Right now, for example, "Joyful Noise" starring Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton, and "The Odd Life of Timothy Green," starring Jennifer Garner are shooting all over town. But enough about them. Here's an opportunity for you, dear budding filmmaker. Georgia Outdoors, which airs at 8:30 p.m. Fridays and 6 p.m. Saturdays on Georgia Public Broadcasting, will air a special Earth Day episode at 8:30 p.m. April 22, and Georgia Public Broadcasting has put out the call for viewers to submit clips of their own. "We hope viewers will follow our lead and spend their weekends and vacations in the natural playgrounds of our environment, whether they shoot a video on an unmarked trail or in their backyard," said host Sharon Collins. The submission deadline is March 25. Mail a copy of your DVD full of natural wonder to Georgia Outdoors Earth Day Video Contest, GPB, 260 14th St. NW, Atlanta, 30318. Include a typed explanation of your video (100 words or less please), and be sure to include your full name, address and daytime contact number. They'll contact you if your submission is chosen. Entries may not run in their entirety. For more information see www.gpb.org/georgia-outdoors.

Comic opens club to cause

Did you hear the one about longtime local comic Jerry Farber? He has opened a new nightclub, Jerry Farber's Side Door, next to The Landmark Diner at 3652 Roswell Rd. The specialty is the Jerry Farburger, billed as a "gluten-free, hormone-free, cage-free, free-range, sustainable, shade-grown and free-trade certified veggie burger."  "My act may kill, but our food doesn't have to," Farber quipped. "I die all the time up on stage. I don't want anyone dying at their table of a heart attack!" In keeping with all that philosophy the club will host an evening benefiting the Georgia Center for Humane Education, an animal safety and advocacy group. The event will be 7 to 10 p.m. March 24 and will feature a cash bar, silent auction and yes, veggie burgers. Tickets are $25. See JerryFarbersSideDoor.com for information.

Radio personality signs off

Best wishes to Q100's Melissa Carter, who announced on Wednesday that April 15 will be her last day after nearly 10 years. She said she doesn't have her next step charted yet, but will take a few months off. "I'm taking a risk and I've never done that in my life," she said. "It's this instinctual feeling to move on and try something else. It's just time."
