Georgia suspending lane closures for Memorial Day weekend

May 23, 2011Holiday weekend travel is always tough due to congestion, but construction shouldn't be a problem Memorial Day weekend.
The Georgia Department of Transportation is suspending construction-related lane closures from 5 a.m. Friday until 10 p.m. Monday.
Lanes will be closed for accidents and emergencies, when necessary.
GDOT urges travelers to drive carefully.
“Historically, Georgia experiences more than 2,000 crashes resulting in more than a dozen fatalities and more than a thousand injuries during the Memorial Day weekend,” GDOT Commissioner Vance C. Smith Jr. said.
