The 19th annual Georgia Fine and Collectible Book Fair at Cobb County Civic Center

Bookworms are sure to start wiggling their way to this celebration and sale of the written word. Sponsored by the Georgia Antiquarian Booksellers Association, this book fair hosts more than 60 dealers specializing in rare books, manuscripts, autographs, prints, maps and more. Exhibits include those created by the Robert C. Williams Paper Museum and the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History. The latter gives visitors a chance to gander at rare Civil War sheet music, letters and diaries. Keep an ear out for the hourly drawings for the opportunity to snag a $50 gift certificate, which can be spent at the event. Guests can bring their own rare books, manuscripts, maps and other items on Saturday for Discovery Day. That’s when exhibitors pass on advice and complementary appraisals.

Sci Fi Summer Con at Crowne Plaza Hotel Atlanta Perimeter Galleria

This geek gathering promises a three-day indulgence in genre entertainment. Vendors offer comics, T-shirts, DVDs and other nerdy essentials in the dealers room. A retro arcade allows gamers a chance to step back in time to the days of pixelated space invaders and centipedes. Guests can battle it out interactive style with games including the Nerf Gun Target Shoot and Laser Tag. Guest speakers, panel discussions, an art show, movie screenings and other events pack the weekend. Special guests range from comic book artists and writers to paranormal researchers. Live music includes a performance by One Hard Night. This nerd rock outfit cranks tunes about the Patrick Swayze flick “Red Dawn,” Jedi powers and other mouth-breathing delights.

“Sex Please, We’re Sixty” at Southside Theatre Guild

Theater fans have one last weekend to catch this farce from the minds of Michael and Susan Parker. Wackiness ensues at Mrs. Stancliffe’s Rose Cottage Bed & Breakfast with a colorful gaggle of characters. Whether it’s the sexually charged Southern belle, the slick-talking neighbor Bud the Stud or the chemist who creates a libido-increasing pill, expect comedic craziness. Venusia, the sexy drug, is meant for women. When Bud grabs some, we find Venusia gives men all the symptoms of menopausal women, including hot flashes. Keep in mind this show is loaded with adult themes, so keep the kiddies at home.
