Ellen DeGeneres announced on Wednesday that she will be taking over as the fourth judge on "American Idol" and has now revealed why she thinks she'll make a good fit.

"I'm just a fan like everybody else," she told "Idol" host Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show Thursday morning. "People choose the American Idol -- ultimately it doesn't come down to some expert in the music industry, it comes down to everybody at home saying 'that's the person I relate to,' so I hope to be that voice."

Ellen goes on to say that she has yet to talk to Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson or Kara DioGuardi about her new role and just hopes that "Paula [Abdul] is okay" with her taking the spot that Paula originated.
