Like many celebrities, Demi Lovato tweeted in support of pop singer Kesha with the hashtag, #FreeKesha.
Kesha is involved in a legal battle with Dr. Luke, a record producer she claims sexually assaulted her.
Demi Lovato unleashed a Twitter rant late Saturday night, saying that she's "ready for self-proclaimed feminists to start speaking out or taking action for women's rights."
Many fans thought she was speaking about Taylor Swift, calling out the singer for not tweeting in support of Kesha.
Seemingly in response, Swift released a statement that she donated $250,000 to Kesha "in show of support … to help with any of her financial needs during this trying time."
Fans who thought a feud was brewing may have gotten a confirmation when Demi got into a disagreement with a Taylor Swift fan on Instagram.
"The fact that Demi took attention off of the real issue, which is Kesha, and put it on her and what seems to be a new 'rivalry' really shows her true character," ProudOfSwift wrote.
"At least I'm talking about it," Lovato responded. "Not everyone has $250,000 to just give to people."
"There is no 'rivalry,'" Lovato continued. "I would rather start a dialogue about women coming forward about being raped that throw money at one person."
"I appreciate that you spoke up about the issue, but the fact that it seems (like) you shaded Taylor because she donated money instead of tweeting out about it just isn't right," the fan said, tagging Lovato in the comment.
"I didn't shade Taylor," Lovato said. "If you take it that way then fine. I'm just tired of seeing women use "women empowerment" and "feminism" to further brands without actually being the ones that have the uncomfortable conversations."
"At least I'm getting my hands dirty," Lovato said.
The Swift fan has since made her account private for drama control, according to Mashable.
Lovato made it clear she was not impressed.
But Kesha's mother, Pebe Sebert, is grateful to Swift.
