‘Anchorman 2,’ ‘Prisoners’ filming in Atlanta this week
"Anchorman 2" has been setting up for a skating scene by installing a temporary rink in downtown Atlanta's Peachtree Center. The project starring Will Ferrell as the legendary Ron Burgundy will be down there all week, according to permits filed with the city of Atlanta. Prepare for traffic to be impacted along Andrew Young International Boulevard between Peachtree Street and Peachtree Center Avenue. The sidewalk along that stretch will be closed during that time as well.
The permit agreement stipulates that two uniformed, off-duty police officers are present the entire time and that residents and businesses affected by the filming must have access to their homes or offices.
The movie, also starring Paul Rudd, James Marsden, Christina Applegate, Harrison Ford and Kristen Wiig, already has filmed at a number of Atlanta locations, including the Silver Skillet and Olympic Flame restaurants and private homes in Buckhead and Inman Park. We're told members of the cast enjoyed dinner at South City Kitchen Midtown on Monday night.
Meanwhile, "Prisoners," starring Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis, Terrence Howard and Maria Bello, is filming this week at the Atlanta Medical Center's south campus, at 1170 Cleveland Ave. A notice from the production company said scheduled road closures would include Cleveland Avenue between Jewel Street and Winburn Terrace, and Jefferson Terrace between Forrest Avenue and Cleveland Avenue. Off-duty East Point police officers will be on hand to help with navigation.
Would you like to meet some of the “Prisoners” cast members? Bello, co-founder of We Advance, which works with women’s groups in Haiti, plans the Atlanta for Haiti Benefit at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Teamsters Local Union Hall, 2540 Lakewood Ave. Individual tickets are $100 and are available at weadvance.org.
“We would love the support of Atlanta,” Bello told us during a quick phone call in between scenes this week. “It’s going to be a really fun night. It’s going to be sort of Hollywood meets the people of Atlanta.”
