The art of the National Black Arts Festival

The National Black Arts Festival in Atlanta featured a gallery crawl and a large exhibit at the Georgia World Congress Center this week.

Clay sculpture by Woodrow Nash entitled "Almitra." Nash is an artist who travelled from Akron, Ohio, to attend the National Black Arts Festival. This artists and vendors display, one of several associated with the NBAF, was at the Georgia World Congress Center.

Works by artists of Caribbean descent on display at the Juror Gallery in Decatur. "Milkwood, Roots and Locks" by Curtis McHardy of Trinidad and Tobago was one of the works showcased as a part of the National Black Arts Festival's Gallery Crawl.

"Stretch Run," a bronzed sculpture by George Nock, is one of many sculptures on display at Studio Clout in Castleberry Hill. The exhibit features Nock's work with painter Michael McBride, sharing the history of black jockeys through their art. The exhibit is one of more than a dozen being showcased as part of the NBAF gallery crawl.

The mixed media artwork of L. Najee Dorsey at the Georgia World Congress Center. The work features photographs, hand-painted fragments, and other types of media.

A sculpture by Basil Watson of Jamaica is one of many pieces of art on display by artists of Caribbean descent at the Juror Gallery in Decatur. Galleries have their doors open for the NBAF's self-guided gallery crawl.

Sculptures by George Nock and paintings by Michael McBride are featured in the exhibit "Too Black Too Fast," depicting the history of black jockeys, at Studio Clout in Castleberry Hill.
