Preschoolers at The Goddard School located at Atlanta (Midtown) 1080 Spring Street, Atlanta along with 26 other Goddard Schools in metro Atlanta are in the midst of month-long charity book drive with the goal of collecting 25,000 books for Children Read Atlanta (http://www.childrenreadatlanta.org/) – a local nonprofit that provides books to low-income families so reading skills can be supported from a very young age.
Assuming the local Goddard Schools meet their goal, this is believed to the largest one-time donation the charity has ever received.
The book drive is a lesson in how the community and school kids can come together to bring much-needed resources to underprivileged kids while also learning about the importance of charity, cooperation, and creativity. As of Wednesday, 4,686 childrens books had been collected. Children at Goddard Schools throughout Georgia are having book-themed door decorating contests, creating posters, making special bookmarks to place in the donated books to create a connection with the children receiving the books. Our children learn what it means to give back to others through hands-on participation.
People drop off books to any of The Goddard School locations throughout Atlanta (the addresses noted below) until September 30th. On October 1st, the giant donation will be delivered.
