The historic Marietta Square is transforming into a winter wonderland this holiday season — and will have an ice skating rink for the first time.

Located at the southwest corner of Glover Park, the ice skating rink opens Friday and will remain open until Jan. 4.

(There will be extended hours during school breaks and open Thanksgiving and Christmas.)

Entrance is $12 and covers the skate rental. There is free parking available on the parking decks (on the courthouse side of the square) after 5 p.m. and on weekends.

Other events include Santa coming to town on Thursday, Dec. 3 (Local school choruses perform at 5 p.m.; Santa arrives at 5:20 p.m. and will stay at the square until 8 p.m. the lighting of the Christmas tree)

Sponsored by the Marietta Square (a non-profit sponsored by businesses on the Marietta Square) the holiday events will also include toy workshops sponsored by Home Depot, and New Year's Eve celebrations which include a Children's Ball Drop at 7 p.m. Dec. 31.

“We are working hard to create a magical Holiday experience, to provide the setting that will build cherished

memories that will last a lifetime. It’s an honor to be a part of it all.”, says Jenny King, a local artist, owner of Red

Door Art Gallery & Studio and a member of the group of businesses hosting these events. King adds, “The Square often resembles a Hallmark movie on a regular day…to see it transform into a winter wonderland and to be able to share that feeling

with everyone is truly amazing.”
