Classic movies from a variety of artists who were part of the French “New Wave” period and from German writer/director Wim Wenders will be screened in two new film series beginning this month, one on the Emory University campus, the other at the Landmark Midtown Art Cinema.

The Emory series, “French New Wave: Classics and Rediscoveries,” begins Wednesday, Jan. 13, and continues every Wednesday through April 20, except for a marathon screening of the 13-hour “OUT 1: Noli Me Tangere,” which will take place in two sessions, 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20 and 12 noon Sunday, Feb. 21.

The 15 titles in the series include many well-known works, such as “Hiroshima Mon Amour” and “The 400 Blows” and also some rarities, not often seen in theaters, such as Jean-Pierre Melville’s 1955 gangster flick “Bob le flambeur” (“Bob the Gambler.”)

All films are free of charge and begin at 7:30 p.m. The screenings are held on the Emory campus in White Hall, room 208, and are introduced by Emory professor Dr. James Steffen. There is free parking available on campus after 7 p.m.

The series at Midtown Art Cinema begins Tuesday, Jan. 26, and continues every Tuesday until March 1, with showtimes at 7 p.m. Midtown will also screen a marathon film, Wenders’ five-hour “Until the End of the World,” which will be shown at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 6.

The films at Midtown include the 1987 cult classic “Wings of Desire.” All films are $11.
