Treehouse as sculpture in northwest Atlanta

Atlanta artist Mark Leibert has designed a 14-foot treehouse called "Perch" that is mounted on the rooftop deck of Sandler Hudson Gallery.

Atlanta artist Mark Leibert has designed a 14-foot treehouse called "Perch." Leibert had to use a crane to move pieces of the sculpture to the roof of Sandler Hudson Gallery for assembly.

The tree trunk has a steel frame inside it, making the piece structurally sound.

The house itself is 4 feet by 5 feet and is made from cedar and cypress.

Leibert had a lot of help with the construction. Three architects worked with him to design the steel frame inside the trunk, and carpenter Nat Rushin helped build the house.

The sculpture is visible to thousands of people who drive down Marietta Street N.W. everyday.

The finished product. The final touch is an arched stained-glass window designed by Leibert and made by artist Susan McCracken.
