Legacy Hotel Partners recently installed an arts program at the Glenn Hotel which includes a mural of a sunrise over the skyline with “ATLANTA” in large, turquoise letters.

Alexi Torres, a famous muralist recently created this 47-foot tall by 39-feet wide mural on the side of Glenn Hotel in Downtown Atlanta. The mural is on the north side of the Glenn Hotel, facing the CNN Center.

Torres was born in Cuba and used to paint tourist’s photos at a Cuban resort. He moved to Atlanta after falling in love with an Atlantan visiting Cuba. His first “gig” in Atlanta was the Silhouette Building on Peachtree.

For this project at Glenn, he wasn’t hanging from a rope, but instead he had a platform from which he painted. He sketched out the entire mural – (in this heat) – and then began painting on what was a colorless stucco side of a building. His other murals include pieces at Drew Charter School.

Other efforts to establish the Glenn Hotel, which is managed by Legacy Hotel Partners, as an “art hotel” include the installation of three kinetic sculptures in the rock garden area of the SkyLounge.

Donald Trump's administration deployed the military to Washington, D.C., in the name of fighting crime, and in an Aug. 11 news conference he mentioned the possibility of military being sent to other large American cities, all of which are led by Black, Democratic mayors. And while Atlanta wasn't included in Trump's list, the city fits that profile under Mayor Andre Dickens. (Photo Illustration: Philip Robibero / AJC | Source: Getty)
