President and CEO of Zoo Atlanta, Dennis Kelly announced Thursday January 28, 2010 at Zoo Atlanta that panda, Mei Lan would be departing Atlanta for China next Thursday via FedX Express. FedX Express VP of Memphis World Hub, John G. Dunavant joined Kelly in the announcement and unveiled a model of the 777F plane and paint scheme that will take Mei Lan and the panda from the National Zoo, four-year-old panda, Tai Shan to China next Thursday. Mei Lan will also be accompanied by Zoo Atlanta panda keeper, Heather Roberts and some familiar toys to help settle her on the trip and adjust once in China. Kelly also announced that the Give So They Stay campaign raised $ 402,900 that seals the deal for pandas to continue having a home at Zoo Atlanta.
