Actor Luke Perry, best known for playing Dylan McKay on “90210,” died Monday just days after having a stroke, according to his publicist.
On Thursday, Perry, who most recently starred in the television series “Riverdale,” said that the actor was under observation at a California hospital amid reports that he had a stroke one day earlier.
As news of the 52-year-old’s death spread, fans, friends and former “90210” cast members posted tributes and shocked reactions on social media and issued statements.
"I am in shock. Heartbroken. Devastated by the loss of my friend. I have so many memories with Luke that make me smile and that are forever imprinted on my heart and mind," Shannon Doherty told People. Doherty played Brenda Walsh, girlfriend of Perry's Dylan McKay, on "90210."
“Luke loved his family. He raved about his kids and how proud he was of them. He showed me videos of the often,” Doherty told People. “They were his heart and for him, his biggest accomplishment.”
Tori Spelling, Gabrielle Carteris and Jennie Garth, other co-stars on "90210," also spoke to People about Perry.
“I’m in utter shock and heartbroken,” Spelling said. “Luke was one of the kindest and most humble human beings I’ve ever known. I’m grateful for the years of friendship we had. He truly was family to me, a protector and a brother. I’m so sorry for the loss that everyone is experiencing.”
“My heart is broken. He meant so much to so many,” Garth said. “Such a very special person. I share my deep sadness with his family and all who loved him. Such a terrible loss.”
Gabrielle Carteris told People: “I am absolutely heartbroken. Luke was a tremendous force in the lives of so many. He was a very sensitive soul who was kind, generous and he fought for the underdog. He was a strong voice and an advocate who will be so missed by all who knew him. He has left his mark — never to be forgotten. My heart goes out to his family, friends and fans around the globe.”

Dearest Luke, I will forever bask in the loving memories we've shared over the last thirty years. May your journey forward be enriched by the magnificent souls who have passed before you, just like you have done here for those you leave behind. God please give him a seat close to to you, he deserves it.
When I was lucky enough to work with Luke Perry I told him about the pillow of his face I used to sleep with and he yelled "You are such a weirdo!" at me and it was the best. Sending love to his friends and family.— Leslie Grossman (@MissLeslieG) March 4, 2019

Crushed. Luke Perry was truly a great guy. Warm, kind, generous and hard working. We met very young, I witnessed the grace with which he became a pop icon & parent. He’s been an awesome example of how to stay decent in a swirl of crazy. Love to his family❤️ https://t.co/bGlTX8mNbB— Seth Green (@SethGreen) March 4, 2019

We are all here for such a short time. We need to love each other and have compassion. That is all. And that’s all it’s ever been.
So sad. Luke Perry #beverlyhills90210 #riverdale I met him when I was 19 and when we re-met in our 40’s both promoting our #CW roles and shows. I didn’t think he would remember our crazy… https://t.co/QPdVMoxYw0— John Barrowman MBE (@JohnBarrowman) March 4, 2019

RIP Luke Perry. 90210 was one of my favorite TV shows and I always hoped to be as cool as Dylan McKay. I copied his answering machine and his sideburns. My wrestling name was almost Zack McKay...but I thought it was too obvious that I was combining Zack Morris & Dylan McKay. 😢 pic.twitter.com/sh1zSuOvU9— Zack Ryder (@ZackRyder) March 4, 2019
