It's spring cleaning time! Let's face it, most of us don't enjoy house cleaning. Here are some tips to help you get your house clean and organized in an efficient manner.

Spring cleaning doesn't have to be expensive. Tried-and-true products like baking soda, vinegar and lemon juice make great household cleaners. And believe it or not, coffee filters are recommended for cleaning mirrors, as they don't causes streaking and they don't leave behind lint like other wipes.

With spring arriving soon, it's time to open the drapes and let the sunshine in. It's also a good time to clean drapes and curtains (use a vacuum cleaner attachment.) Looking for something new to dress up your windows? Consider lighter window treatments in the spring and summer months. And don't be afraid to get creative, such as using a bedspread or tablecloth to fashion a curtain.

Don't let dirty windows take away from your enjoyment of springtime in Atlanta, one of the city's most beautiful seasons. No fancy cleaners are needed, in fact experts prefer old-fashioned soap and water for cleaning windows. The best time to clean windows? On a cloudy day or in shade, according to Consumer Reports.

Rugs can be a real pain to keep clean. If you have children and/or pets, it may be wise to invest in a premium vacuum cleaner that has the power to handle heavy-duty cleaning. Keep your nicer rugs in low-traffic areas, such as a formal dining room and more disposable rugs in high-traffic areas, such as hallways.

A cluttered closet can seem like an overwhelming task to tackle, but it is essential in getting your home and yourself organized. There are plenty of shelving kits on the market that are easy to install and can make organizing closets a breeze.

Ceiling fans are often overlooked when it comes to dusting. But beware if you are preparing to turn them on after leaving them off all winter, as the collected dust can kick up quite a cloud across the room.

Desks in the home should also be relieved of clutter. Buy an organizer or establish a system for incoming bills and paperwork. Most companies accept online payments now, which can help reduce monthly bill clutter. Keeping paperwork organized will also make another dreaded springtime task easier: tax preparation.

Don't try to sweep the task of spring cleaning under the rug. Instead, pick up those rugs and take them outside to shake out dust.

Don't forget the exterior of your home when it comes to spring cleaning! The dreary winter months may have brought rain, ice and snow, but as the sun starts to shine more, a dirty home exterior really stands out in all of the wrong ways. Check your local watering laws when it comes to power washing; there are also professional companies that offer this service.

Don't forget to clean out the garage when it comes to spring cleaning. It's easy to turn the garage into a dumping ground, but resist the temptation and instead, install shelving to store miscellaneous items.

Remember to donate any unwanted items after you purge your closets. Not only do donations help those in need, they can serve as a tax write-off for you.
