Private Quarters: Personalizing a Powder Springs home

The foreclosure's old laminate floors were replaced by hickory wood floors. Other upgrades came from the homeowner's personal style and bargain finds.

Shannon Joy said part of the renovations to her Powder Springs kitchen included adding lighting from The Home Depot and Reclaim It Atlanta, which sells reclaimed building materials.

When Shannon Joy moved into her home in 2011, the kitchen flooring had two layers of linoleum. In 2013, Joy spent a month pulling up the old layers of flooring, removing the baseboards and working with a contractor who installed new, solid wood floors.

Shannon Joy’s kitchen underwent a major renovation after she bought the home four years ago. Now, the new wood floors, stainless steel appliances, wall color and backsplash all reflect her personal style.

Cupola Yellow, a Sherwin-Williams paint color, brightens the entryway to Shannon Joy’s Powder Springs home. After about a month of hard work, Joy removed the original floors and replaced them with solid natural hickory floors.

During renovations last year, homeowner Shannon Joy replaced the original door to the basement stairwell with a frosted glass door.

Homeowner Shannon Joy took on a major project in 2014, when she renovated the staircase going to her basement. In doing so, she painted the stairs and walls, as well as closed off the garage entrance with a pocket door.

Shannon Joy moved her dining room table and chairs, which she found 15 years ago at Sears, into the Powder Springs home she bought in 2011. She topped off the old favorites with new lighting from Lowe’s.

Sconces from Reclaim It Atlanta, which sells reclaimed building materials, illuminate the stairwell with style.

Throughout her Powder Springs home, Shannon Joy showcases decorative artwork she has acquired over the years through art parties and art shows.

Homeowner Shannon Joy renovated her master bathroom after moving into her Powder Springs home. She chose Montagna Belluno 6-inch square tile for the floors, which she found on clearance at The Home Depot.

The guest room in Shannon Joy’s home was already painted blue when she moved in. She liked the color so much she kept it, and then found the perfect canvas artwork from World Market to complement the room’s color.

Family photos and pops of color in the ottoman and accessories add warmth to traditional neutral tones in the living room.

Shannon Joy bought her two-story home in 2011 and has been renovating different parts of the home each year. She chose the bank-owned property so that she could make it into exactly what she wanted. She worked with V. Bradley Designs on selects such as the paint colors and fabrics.

Homeowner Shannon Joy loves decorating with family photos and vinyl wall decals. The "Rejoice!" message was purchased from Byrdie Graphics on esty.com.

When homeowner Shannon Joy bought her Powder Springs foreclosure, she invested the money she saved to make the home exactly as she wanted it. Lighting fixtures, like the dining room fixture from Lowe's, are among the personal touches she has added throughout the home.

In her powder room on the main level, artwork inspired the decor for the entire space, including the Behr Blackberry Mocha paint color on the walls.
