Private Quarters: Party-ready property on Grant Park home tour

Homeowners Chris Chadwick and Gavin George often congregate with family and friends on the spacious front porch of their Grant Park home. The front windows reflect the influences of the Arts and Crafts movement on the Victorian home, which was common at the time it was built in 1911.

Chris Chadwick's and Gavin George's home will be featured on Grant Park's home tour May 21-22. The tour's theme, "A Stroll Through Time," will show how one of Atlanta's original suburbs has evolved -- and continues to evolve -- over the years. The tour benefits the Grant Park Neighborhood Association.

For their Grant Park living room, Chris Chadwick and Gavin George commissioned local carpenter and artist Tobin Hagler of Tobin's House of Fab in Midtown to make a sofa table and a side table along the living room wall from reclaimed materials. Above the table is artwork from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams.

New chairs from Rove Concepts add an organic, mid-century touch to the decor of Chris Chadwick's and Gavin George's timeless living room, which effortlessly reflects a century of changing architectural styles in their 1911 Grant Park home.

A large, freestanding mirror from RH provides added depth to the homeowners' living room and reflects the natural light that filters in from the room's many windows.

Vintage auto accessories add another sense of the past to the Grant Park home, which was built in 1911.

Pocket doors, original to this 1911 late Victorian, were among many features that previous homeowners carefully preserved during a whole-house renovation. Coffered ceilings, moldings, transom windows and heart pine floors were also protected.

When owners Chris Chadwick and Gavin George first began decorating their 1911 Victorian in Grant Park, they had a Moroccan theme in mind. While that quickly evolved into an organic style that reflects the home's 100 years, touches of Morocco still exist, such as the dining room chandelier lantern. In the corner is a "Blow Oskar" folk art piece from the latter part of the 20th century by the late Georgia folk artist R.A. Miller.

A Moroccan-style lantern mixes with the original Arts and Crafts tile work surround on the fireplace in the dining room. The home was built in 1911, and carefully restored in the early 2000s by previous owners who maintained the home's layout, classic style and many original features.

The renovated kitchen in Gavin George's and Chris Chadwick's Grant Park home was once featured on the TV show "Top 10 Bodacious Kitchens." Previous homeowners brought the early 20th-century kitchen up to date, and in 2015, George and Chadwick replaced the counters with Super White Quartzite, installed a new tile backsplash and added a farmhouse sink and new faucet.

In the kitchen, dark cupboards above and on the butcher block sideboard contrast with the lower cabinetry, which the homeowners repainted a lighter color in 2015. A schoolhouse clock and rustic lighting help maintain a classical style in the updated kitchen.

French doors allow natural light to filter into the guest bedroom from the adjoining sitting room. A mid-century chair, lamp and artwork hung from a picture rail create a comfortable corner.

A bedroom set from Bed Down and a neutral color palette set the stage for a peaceful master bedroom. Homeowners Gavin George and Chris Chadwick enjoy buying artwork from local festivals and photography from local artists, which are on display throughout their Grant Park home.

Built in 1911, Gavin George's and Chris Chadwick's home reflects the transition at the time from the Victorian to Arts and Crafts style. In their master bedroom, the fireplace, surround and wooden mantle provide a classic example of Arts and Crafts architecture.

Natural light floods the comfortable sitting room, just off the guest bedroom in Gavin George's and Chris Chadwick's Grant Park home.

In 2015, the homeowners updated the master bath with new tile from The Tile Co. on the floor and around the tub and shower. They also enclosed the shower with a frameless glass door.

A hidden nook provides bathroom storage for this 1,885-square-foot Victorian home in Grant Park. New tile work and fresh paint update the space, but maintain the classic style of the home, built in 1911.

While their home is in the heart of Atlanta's Grant Park neighborhood, Chris Chadwick and Gavin George have created a backyard retreat that feels a million miles away from the rest of the city.

Guests and the homeowners themselves are reminded to relax on the back deck of Gavin George's and Chris Chadwick's Grant Park home.

A deep backyard in the heart of Grant Park offered homeowners Gavin George and Chris Chadwick a blank canvas when they moved in seven years ago. They have spent their time cultivating a lush garden that friends, neighbors and family can all enjoy when they gather on the home's spacious multi-level deck.

The freshly painted exterior of this Grant Park home is a beautiful backdrop to the top level of the back deck, which is perfect for hosting large gatherings.

Their Grant Park Victorian has 1,885 square feet of interior space, but with the multi-level back deck, homeowners Chris Chadwick and Gavin George seemingly double their entertaining space. "The deck really was appealing for being able to host gatherings and host parties," says Chadwick.

As they have worked to build their back garden, homeowners Gavin George and Chris Chadwick have focused on incorporating native, vibrant, unique and/or rare plants, often purchased from Garden*Hood.

The garden pond was already in place when homeowners Gavin George and Chris Chadwick moved into their Grant Park Victorian in 2009. Since then, they have fashioned a true backyard oasis in the city.
