Private Quarters: Historic Atlanta home with Masters mementos

Atlanta's second oldest home, Meadow Nook is located across the street from East Lake Golf Course.

Folk art abounds in the kitchen of Charlie and Sylvia Harrison's Atlanta home. The kitchen used to be the back porch and now has more modern features such as as a Jenn-Air stove and even a kid-sized kitchen set.

The butcher block was rescued from East Lake Golf Club and now resides in the kitchen, which at one time, was the back porch of the home that was built in 1856.

Homeowners Charlie and Sylvia Harrison say that golf great Bobby Jones ate steaks that were cut on the butcher block. "If you dampen it, it smells like old steak. We don't actually use it, it's more an art piece," said homeowner Sylvia Harrison.

The curved staircase that leads from the foyer is one of homeowners Charlie and Sylvia Harrison's favorite parts of their home, which was built in 1856.

Items such as horseshoes found on the property and Civil War era mementos, which tell the story of the home, are framed and hung in the foyer. The home was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

Golf memorabilia and antiques can be found throughout the home, which was built in 1856 and occupied by Union troops during the Civil War. Charlie and Sylvia Harrison bought the home in 1994 and restored it over the years.

Letters from golfing great Bobby Jones are framed on the walls of the Atlanta home owned by Charlie Harrison, who played twice in the Masters.

Homeowner Charlie Harrison often is asked to tell the story behind his Masters scorecard featuring Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan and Norman Von Nida, and the practice round he won at the Augusta National Golf Club.

A friend's gift to Charlie Harrison is a massive framed collection of photos of all 18 holes at Augusta National Golf Club, where the Masters is played every April.

A baker's rack, from Scott Antique Markets, holds trophies, platters and photos from golf tournaments played by homeowner Charlie Harrison.

One of the couple's favorite pieces of furniture is a Minton-Spidell wing chair, next to golfing memorabilia, in the gentleman's parlor of the Atlanta home. The chair is covered in a plaid by Lee Jofa.

A framed Board of Health sign from the City of Atlanta dates from 1880 and decorates a guest bathroom in the home, which was built in 1856. The patterned wallpaper is from Clarence House.

Antique pieces, some of which belonged to homeowner Charlie Harrison's family, join old books and oil paintings in the Greek Revival home's decor.

Folk art and an Elvis collections are among the eclectic decor items in the 3,300-square-foot Atlanta home. The house was built in 1856 and purchased by Charlie and Sylvia Harrison in 1994.

The master bedroom was added to the 1856 home by homeowners Charlie and Sylvia Harrison, who worked with Peak Carpentry and Design. Now, the home has four bedrooms and 3,300 square feet.

A freestanding tub provides a vintage feel in the master bathroom of Atlanta's second oldest home.

Twin spindle beds offer sleeping arrangements for visitors in a guest bedroom in the home. The house has four bedrooms and three baths.

An antique hightop headboard is a focal point in a bedroom at Charlie and Sylvia Harrison's antebellum home near East Lake Golf Club. Sconces hold candleholders on walls painted Benjamin Moore's Irises.

The floors of the restored historic Atlanta home, which was built in 1856, are made of heart pine.

Photos of family members in vintage and antique frames decorate a mantle in a downstairs bedroom in Charlie and Sylvia Harrison's antebellum home, which was built in 1856.

The mantles are original to the house, bearing antiques owned by homeowners Charlie and Sylvia Harrison.

The dining room table is an antique passed down through the family and the chairs are covered in striped fabric from the Dedar collection sold through Jerry Pair at the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center (ADAC).
