Private Quarters: Couple personalizes Ellenwood home

Homeowners Frances and Garnell Pace picked out the home's plan and oversaw the building process.

The two-story Ellenwood home is mostly brick with stucco accents, and homeowner Garnell Pace planned the landscaping to create curb appeal.

The window wall in the two-story family room sold Frances Pace on this Ellenwood home. The arch of the windows mimics the arch to the right, and the family room also features columns created by Ryland Homes.

A ruby red rug from Garden Ridge anchors the family room, which includes furniture from Rooms To Go and a coffee table centerpiece from Pier 1 Imports.

The columns separating the living area and the kitchen were in the builder's plans. Homeowner Frances Pace thinks they add charm in a more contemporary way to the two-story Ellenwood home.

The open floor plan allows homeowners Frances and Garnell Pace to view into several rooms, but also separates the open space. The urn is from Pier 1 Imports, and they have filled their home with various kinds of artwork from stores at The Gallery at South DeKalb (formerly South DeKalb Mall) and The Mall at Stonecrest.

Homeowners Frances and Garnell Pace chose the cherry cabinets and granite countertops while the house was under construction. A floral arrangement from Pier 1 Imports highlights the large island, which provides plenty of room for meals.

Homeowner Frances Pace picked out the brown and beige glass tile to soften the granite in the kitchen. The hanging utensils are within easy reach, but also decorative.

Homeowner Garnell Pace designed and built the bar, giving it a unique curved look. He obtained the cabinets from the Atlanta Salvage Outlet in West Midtown. The granite bar was pieced together from scrap pieces and the mirror was a piece from a previous home.

Frances Pace gave her husband Garnell the pool table as a gift. The table is from Rec Warehouse in Norcross, and the cafe tables and stools were bought while on sale at Garden Ridge.

An electric fireplace provides a focal point for a seating area that includes wall art from Garden Ridge and a painting that homeowner Frances Pace bought at a private show several years ago. The chairs on the tile floors are from American Signature Furniture.

Homeowner Frances Pace is proud of the game table that she designed and built, with help from her husband, Garnell. The base is a spool that was topped by a piece of wood from The Home Depot covered in red felt. The entire piece was stained and the chairs are from American Signature Furniture.

The chairs in the basement theater were a Craigslist deal, focused on a screen that is 8-feet wide by 6-feet tall and measures 98 inches diagonally. The basement was finished in 2008, two years after Frances and Garnell Pace built the Ellenwood home.

Homeowner Frances Pace designed and created the cornice boards and drapes that cover the floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room. The furniture is from Haverty's, and Pace uses floral arrangements throughout to bring more color into the house.

Mocha paint and ceiling details provide a soothing atmosphere for a delicious meal in the dining room. White satin chair covers provide a classy touch to a table and chairs she's owned for several years. Frances Pace created the window treatments, based in her design on an idea she saw in a model home.

Frances Pace paid only $20 for this large floral arrangement from a store on the I-85 Access Road off Jimmy Carter Boulevard in Norcross. She loves how the burgundy, cream and brown color palette fits with her Ellenwood home.

Homeowner Frances Pace added netting over the guestroom bed to make visitors feel welcome to their Ellenwood home.

Frances Pace keeps a photo of her late mother when she was in her 20s on the night table of the guestroom where she used to stay.

Double front doors provide a grand entryway into the Ellenwood home of Frances and Garnell Pace. They picked out the home's plan and saw practically every brick that was used by Ryland Homes.

One of the family room niches features a chest from Kirkland's, which perfectly matches the mirror with the scrollwork from Rooms To Go. The urn is from Pier 1 Imports.

The bench in the foyer was a housewarming gift from a friend when Frances and Garnell Pace bought their Ellenwood home in 2006. The portrait was purchased from a friend; the pillows bring pattern and texture into the space.

For the foyer, Frances Pace bought the mirror, the chest and the candleholders all from Rooms To Go.

Frances Pace has filled her Ellenwood home with various kinds of artwork, including this piece from Garden Ridge that hangs in the family room.

This wall of windows of various sizes provides plenty of sunlight through the rear of the Ellenwood home owned by Frances and Garnell Pace.
