Private Quarters: 1800's Fayetteville farmhouse packed with color

High ceilings in the living room and original wood ceilings in the dining room are only some unique qualities of the historic Fayetteville farmhouse. The outdoor components of the home, the front porch and back deck, complete the property, which the homeowners are enamored with.

The Fayetteville farmhouse was built in 1888 and purchased by Delta Air Line retirees Edward and Nancy Storey in 1982. The house has two bedrooms, two baths and about 1,550 square feet.--Text by Lori Johnston

There's room for the homeowners and their guests on the front porch, where the wicker furniture, floors and ceiling were recently repainted. The farmhouse-style home was built in 1888.

The kitchen cabinets have been repainted four times by homeowner Nancy Storey, who recently used Shy Blossom by Glidden. It's a different shade from the walls, which are Precious Jasper, also by Glidden.

Framed restaurant menus surround the kitchen table, also painted by homeowner Nancy Storey, who has lived in her Fayetteville farmhouse for 32 years.

The Fayetteville home has open spaces instead of boxed off rooms and an eclectic, colorful vibe that's been a longtime passion for homeowner Nancy Storey. The sunroom was added off the back of the kitchen in 1995.

Edward and Nancy Storey added the sunroom in 1995, enhancing the living space in the two-bedroom home that's 125 years old. The walls are painted Glidden's Shy Blossom and the sofa is from Haverty's.

After seeing an example in a magazine of a table made out of palettes, homeowner Nancy Storey crafted her own coffee table, covering family photos with a piece of glass.

For the lamps in her home, Nancy Storey has made them unique, using techniques such as decoupage. The sunroom was added in 1995.

In the sunroom addition, the couple brought in a wood-burning stove and added groups of colorful tiles above the windows looking out to the backyard. The walls are Glidden's Shy Blossom.

The curtain originally was in a bedroom, but homeowner Nancy Storey held onto it and added it to the outdoor decor.

The eclectic decor extends to the outdoors, with birdhouses in the trees and furniture in fun palettes. The deck was expanded in 1994 by the Fayetteville homeowners.

The deck was extended in 1994, giving the homeowners more space to host birthday parties, holidays and other gatherings outdoors. The table and chairs were purchased from an outdoor furniture store in Fayetteville more than 20 years ago, and they have only had to replace the cushions.

The dining room shows the fun Nancy Storey has decorating her eclectic home and reusing old items. She's woven a Christmas decoration around the chandelier and added metal charms, all painted white. The bottom part of the china cabinet was a piece belonging to her mother, and she bought a used bookcase for the top, painting both black. Glidden's Dandelion is on the walls.

Bows, arrows and arrowheads are among the artifacts uncovered by homeowner Edward Storey over the years and displayed in the Fayetteville home, which was built in 1888. "He has found every single thing on the walls," said his wife, Nancy.

The wood ceilings in the dining room are believed to be original to the home. The high ceilings - another favorite feature of the homeowners - also make room for treasures to be displayed above door frames and molding.

Even the clawfoot bathtub is painted in one of the home's two bathrooms, which also has a leopard print and a stained glass window as part of the decor.

In the master bedroom, homeowner Nancy Storey recovered the headboard in a brushed corduroy fabric, accented on the sides with nailheads. The bedding is from Kohl's, except for the blue and printed pillows, also made by Nancy.

Nancy Storey's farmhouse-style home in Fayetteville was built in 1888. The seller, a real estate agent, was renovating the home to rent it out when Nancy asked if she was willing to sell it. She and her husband, Edward, purchased the home in 1982.

One of the few "matching" pieces of furniture in Nancy Storey's home are two floral chairs from Pier 1 Imports. She used Glidden's Sun Rays on the walls, as a vibrant backdrop to greens and reds in the room.

A floral chair from Pier 1 Imports is one of the few pieces that homeowner Nancy Storey has not recovered. She did lay the tiny tiles around the living room fireplace by hand.

One of the DIY projects in the home is an ottoman that Nancy Storey made using an old wooden TV stand. Her husband, Edward, cut down the legs of the stand, and she recovered it with a zebra print.

Homeowner Nancy Storey says her 10-year-old granddaughter loves her house, including the guest room with purple paint was applied with a roller that felt like a sea sponge, she said. She and her husband, Edward, also added a chair rail around the room. The green comforter was a Kohl's purchase.

An old secretary has a new purpose in the bathroom, storing towels and toiletries. Homeowner Nancy Storey rearranges her furniture and accessories to make the 125-year-old home look new and different. Behr's Canton Jade and Tropical Dream are on the walls.
