The large English breakfront, circa 1790, in Emily and Bernard Van der Lande's Atlanta living room was a gift from Bernard's grandmother. "It looks like it was built for this room," says Emily.

The "lodge room" is home to the couple's favorite piece, a handmade glass and brass hanging lantern from Morocco. The beamed and vaulted ceilings, and painting by German baroque painter Werner von Tamm, make it one of the homeowners' favorite spaces.

The beams running across the width of the "lodge room" are original to the Atlanta home, which was built in the 1930.

The double-sided stone fireplace sealed the couple's desire to buy the home, says homeowner Emily Van der Lande.

Family heirlooms mingle with store-bought furniture and consignment store finds in Emily and Bernard Van der Lande's home. The sofa and chairs came from Mathews' Furniture in Atlanta while Emily made the coffee/children's table. The kitchen table came from Bernard's father's childhood home in the Netherlands.

Wood adorns the walls throughout Emily and Bernard Van der Lande's early 1900s home. In the master bedroom, the panels have been painted, creating a light, airy retreat for the couple.

Homeowner Emily Van der Lande enjoys decorating the Atlanta home she and husband Bernard bought in January 2014 with treasures she finds from their world travels, Mathews' Furniture and local consignment stores.

Dark wood in the master bathroom is reminiscent of this early 20th century Atlanta home's roots. Homeowners Emily and Bernard Van der Lande have been told their home, the oldest in their neighborhood, was once a hunting lodge.

Wood paneling is found throughout Bernard and Emily Van der Lande’s home, including in the guest bathroom, where the light panels hint at a modern lodge style.

In the foyer of Bernard and Emily Van der Lande’s Atlanta home is a console table that Emily found at A Classy Flea in Marietta. The Van der Landes placed an antique Japanese screen above the console.

Friends of Emily and Bernard Van der Lande gave the couple this acrylic and gold leaf on canvas piece by Tom Swanston as a wedding gift. "Tom Swanston magically turns geese migration into beautiful art," Emily says. "The idea is that the geese mate for life, so it was an appropriate wedding gift."

Dark wood walls decorated with pictures and maps create a contemplative environment in Emily and Bernard Van der Lande's study, which is anchored by a rug from Morocco. The couple found the table at Bob Williams + Mitchell Gold and the leather chair at RH (formerly Restoration Hardware).

In addition to renovating the interior of Bernard and Emily Van der Lande's early 20th century home, previous owners overhauled the landscape as well, adding a patio, landscape and water features. The consultant was David Curl at Curl Landscape.

In Emily and Bernard Van der Lande's Atlanta home hangs a photo essay of one of Bernard's relatives showing the classical tradition of making old Dutch wooden shoes.
