Butch and Debbie Floyd built their vacation home in South Carolina's Palmetto Bluff neighborhood for themselves and to rent out when they don't have time to visit.

The Inn at Palmetto Bluff has 50 private guest cottages with river views. It's among the amenities in the community that also include a village with shops and restaurants, a trail system, boating and fishing and a variety of recreational opportunities. "It's just a lot of stuff to do," Butch Floyd said. "You never get bored."

Debbie Floyd worked on the design of their vacation home at Palmetto Bluff, which brought the couple back to South Carolina, where they grew up. "It's just so quiet and peaceful," Butch Floyd said of the community.

Butch Floyd enjoys playing golf at Palmetto Bluff's May River Golf Club and says even friends marvel at the setting. Once while at a hole overlooking the marsh, one of his friends stopped, looked at Floyd and said: "Did you notice that? It's so quiet."

The Floyds were attracted to the low-country setting at Palmetto Bluff and often see wildlife in the neighborhood. "It is such a beautiful, serene place," Butch Floyd said.

The Floyds use their wraparound porch, a portion of which is screened in, during every season. "The porch is the big draw," Butch Floyd said.

The open dining area and kitchen, which boasts an island, granite countertops and stainless steel appliances, are a plus for entertaining. The couple also offers their vacation home in the community's rental program.

The Floyds' home, which has about 3,000 square feet, includes a fireplace and built-in bookcases. There's also a fireplace on the wraparound porch.
