KITCHEN: An efficiently organized perimeter and large island, all topped with granite, provide plenty of work and storage space in the open kitchen. Raised-panel cherry cabinets with brushed pewter hardware set off the stainless steel sink and appliances.

SITTING AREA: Distinctive built-in bookcases use the space beneath the extra-wide staircase. The Bermuda Stone wall color takes on a grayish hue when accented by the rust-red chair.

DINING ROOM: Pleated apricot drapery panels match the upholstered chairs to set a formal but welcoming tone in the dining room. The wall color, Sherwin Williams' Bermuda Stone, is a new shade of taupe that takes on the tonality of its complementary colors.

FAMILY ROOM: Dramatic high ceilings and intimate groupings of furniture give an open and airy feel to family space. Designer Dick Klippel built the room's color palette around the two floral print pillows on the solid-colored sofa. "It makes a stunning statement and the colors in the fabric work so well together in various pieces around the room," he said.

KITCHEN: Extra counter space and storage is always welcome in a kitchen, even when it's large and open. Oversized tiles set on the diagonal as the backsplash add a spacious feel and make clean-up easier. "The less grout you have, the easier it is to clean," said designer Dick Klippel.

BREAKFAST AREA: Pots of red geraniums add pops of color to the neutral taupes and sage greens. The wrought-iron chairs have cushions in a textured fabric that pulls in the colors from the family room.

MASTER RETREAT: Calming French blue plays a major role for the wall color, accent pillows and window treatments. The white matelasse bedcover gives a crisp look. The chests are modified French Provincial, painted pale cream with detailing in French blue.

MASTER BATH: The taupe used throughout the rest of the house becomes the accent color in the master bath in tile and complementary towels. The wall color here is French blue to create an relaxing and elegant bath. Glass mosaic tiles create a border.

KITCHEN TO FAMILY ROOM: Coordinating light fixtures are used above the kitchen island and the breakfast area to tie the open spaces together. The underlying neutral tones and color accents are drawn from the family room.
