Greek Revival home suits Peachtree City family

Jim and Linda Strickland of Peachtree City relax in the living room of their Greek Revival home. Jim, founder of Historical Concepts and designer of his house, claims that he constantly has ongoing projects in the home. "Everybody always has something that they would change. You can enjoy the future and also enjoy looking at the past, but today I'm very happy," Jim says.

The dining room is the first room visitors see upon entering Jim and Linda Strickland's Peachtree City home. The room is filled with family heirlooms including the dining room table that came from Jim's mother and a harp used in the Panama Pacific International Exposition of 1915 that has been passed down in Linda's family.

Jim Strickland, founder of Historical Concepts in Peachtree City, and his wife, Linda, live in a Greek Revival home built to emulate those in cities like Savannah, Charleston and New Orleans. The houses mimic the colorful, historic buildings of the South built in the late 1800s. Jim's company designed the entire neighborhood.

The Stricklands wanted their house to have as much natural light as possible. "It's nice to look through and see all the light and to see the roses in the garden," Jim Strickland says.

Morning light spills through the shutters into the breakfast area of Jim and Linda Strickland's home. The painted wood floors that cover the first floor have become a focal point of the home. "Everyone that visits says, "I love these black floors.' They ask how we distressed them and I point to the dogs, " Linda says.

Dormers were built onto the third floor of Jim and Linda Strickland's home to create usable closet space for the guest bedroom.

The apartment above Jim and Linda Strickland's garage was designed with their daughter Suzanne in mind who has a great love for horses and the outdoors. A board-and-batten wall finish and built-in bed were added after the original construction of the home. The apartment is also equipped with a full bathroom and kitchen.

Jim Strickland trims the vines and roses that give his back garden shade during the hot summer months. Jim and his wife, Linda, enjoy a very active lifestyle and take care the yard work themselves. "I walk two or three times a day with the dogs. We're on a path system and the neighborhood is a community. We know every single person, along with their kids and animals, and it is also a beautiful walk, " Linda says.

The guest bedroom on the third floor of the Greek Revival-style home is adorned with family antiques and photographs. Jim and Linda Strickland's grandchildren frequent the guest rooms of the home.

The outdoor breezeway connects the main house to the garage and apartment of the Strickland's home. A vast array of flowers creates much-needed shade over the garden where the couple spends a great amount of time reading with their two dogs.

Most of the first floor flows between the open areas of the kitchen, living room, sunroom and breakfast room. "I don't consider our home to be great, but what I do consider great about our home is that everyone is happy in it, " Jim Strickland says.
