Family-friendly chalet in Helen

The White family have a spacious second home in the Innsbruck community of Helen that is a meeting place for family and friends.

Marie White owns a seven-bedroom six-and-a-half bath home in Helen, Georgia. She and her husband Robert designed and built the house to be a second home that could be used by their large families, but they also had rental in mind. "We use the house as a second home, but the rentals allow us to share it with families like ours," said Marie. "It's perfect for extended families."

The main floor dining room seats 16 and the living room has a gas fireplace. There are two bedrooms on the main floor, two bedrooms upstairs and three bedrooms on the lower level. Balconies and patios provide lots of outdoor living space.

A view of one of the seven bedrooms, perfect for guests. The Whites chose Innsbruck because they enjoy playing golf, but they also felt the gated community offered security. White sometimes comes up for visits by herself, staying a couple of months at a time, enjoying everything the area has to offer.

White particularly enjoys sharing Helen with her two grandchildren, Jordan Buchannon, 8, and Taylor Woodall, 5. They go to the train station and the Black Forest Bear Park and enjoy the fresh air of the mountains. They built the house about three-and-a-half years ago and use it about half the year, renting it out for the remainder of the year.

A view of one of the two kitchens. Helen's weather with its not too cold winters and not too hot summers seems ideal to White. They enjoy Oktoberfest in the fall and the local craft shops and fairs. Wine tours and art gallery strolls are two more reasons to spend time in the area.

The Whites' chalet is built in the Innsbruck golf community which features an 18-hole golf course. The cabin sleeps up to 28 people and can be split into two units. White met her husband in Helen where she was a property manager. They now live in Florida, but get up to Helen at least 4-5 times a year. "We're kind of addicted," she smiled.

The house features two living rooms, two kitchens, a game room with pool table and all kinds of games, a hot tub and even a basketball hoop on the driveway. "It's very family friendly. That was the idea. We roast marshmallows in the big fireplaces and we love to play horseshoes. That's what it's all about, family and friends," added White.

These bunk beds are perfect for the grandchildren when they visit.
