It’s never too soon to start preparing for the apocalypse.

In what may have been one of the most unique real estate listings in Georgia, an honest-to-god underground bunker was sold recently. It was one of the houses we recommend buying after you win the lottery.

According to information from the listing and Realtor, the property is 31 ½ acres of fenced compound in Tifton, 10 miles from I-75. The facility was built in 1969 during the Cold War to communicate between military bases. It cost $7 million to build in the ‘60s, the equivalent of $100 million today, according to a release from Harry Norman Realtors when the property hit the market last year.

The propery is no longer listed, but check out the video here.

The facility is built to military specifications with 3-foot reinforced walls that can resist a 20-kiloton nuclear blast. The building has a spring system designed to absorb part of the blast from an explosion.

The bunker is an apartment complex unto itself, with three two-bedroom luxury apartments that include TV, internet and environmental controls. That’s not counting the larger one-bedroom apartment or the two business centers. The place has its own water and sewage treatment room, a workshop, home theater, water storage, backup power system and modernized commercial-size kitchen. There is also an outdoor firing range because this is former military.

For hardcore survivalists, this base is rated to accommodate 40 people for “shorter periods” or 20 people for a year.

A release from Realtor Sister Hood suggests the site could work as a government training facility, a corporate secure server site or a research facility (because sometimes scientific research can only happen deep underground).
