Atlanta teens dreaming of a career in Hollywood can get hands-on experience this summer with Fresh Films.
The free summer program (sponsored by Subway and Best Buy) gives kids in several cities nationwide the opportunity to produce new episodes of a television show for kids. Selected students will spend a week rotating through film positions including sound, lighting, camera and costume.
“Not only do the teens learn about career options in the media/entertainment industry, they also gain leadership, teamwork and problem-solving skills that will benefit them as they prepare for the future,” says Fresh Films, director Estlin Feigley.
There are a limited number of spaces in each city and teens must submit an application before June 15 (no experience is necessary) .
Kids who take part in the program are exposed to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) behind the scenes while working on sound engineering, visual effects and animation, as well as through the content of some of the film projects.
Past projects include "Traveling Without Moving" -- a fictional sci-fi film based on real Quantum physics -- which stars Steve Guttenberg and Harry Lennix and debuts this fall and the Emmy-nominated kids' TV show, "Moochie Kalala Detectives Club" which inspires children's curiosity about the world around them with help from real scientists.

The summer program, is one of several initiatives which also include school tours, teacher grants and filmmaking workshops.
