The Big Apple just got squashed by an 800 pound peach.

According to New Year's Eve travel searches on Kayak.com , Atlanta is the top American city to ring in 2016. Ranked number six overall, Atlanta beat out traditional destinations like New York's Times Square. In fact, the only other U.S. city that made the top 10 is Chicago.

Here are the cities that saw the greatest increase in New Year's Eve travel searches according to Kayak data:

  1. Dubai, UAE
  2. Cartagena, Colombia
  3. Barcelona, Spain
  4. Reykjavik, Iceland
  5. Tokyo, Japan
  6. Atlanta, GA
  7. Santiago, Chile
  8. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
  9. Chicago, IL
  10. Vancouver, Canada

But you have to wonder if all these Atlanta bound revelers know that The Peach Drop, the largest NYE celebration in the Southeast, may not be happening this year?

The official webpage is stuck on 2015 and the countdown clock is full of zeros.

Underground Atlanta is being sold to South Carolina based WRS, Inc. Real Estate Investments for almost $30 million. The deal closing date has been set for Jan. 15 which means the new owners won't be in place in time for the Peach Drop.

WRS told WSB-TV that the city owns the rights and the physical structure of the Peach Drop, so the future of the event is up to the city.

The response from the City of Atlanta?

They'll keep us posted.
