This is the type of so-called news that never would have occurred before smartphone videos.

Vanilla Ice, at Hartsfield-Jackson International Monday, missed his flight and yelled at the Delta customer counter folks for not informing him the flight was about to take off. "Nobody said final call!" he yelped.

"You gotta watch the monitor," said a helpful customer off camera.

But Robert Van Winkle wasn't taking it. "Shut your mouth! I don't need anything from you! You don't work here. Shut up!"

Someone captured the "Ice Ice Baby" rapper and DIY star on video and sent it off to TMZ. (Anyone know how much TMZ pays for such trinkets?)

He told TMZ he had arrived an hour early but somehow missed all the signals that people were boarding the flight. By the time he noticed, the gateway had closed.

He laughed about it after the fact on Twitter, noting that the man who tried to give him helpful advice was wearing a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle shirt:

This Tweet may offer a clue why he may have missed his flight:
