The CW has announced early renewals of several of its biggest shows including two shot in metro Atlanta: "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals."

"The Vampire Diaries" is in its fifth season and has been the CW's top-rated show its entire run. It made stars of Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley. It is shot all over Atlanta but heavily in Covington, where the town masquerades as the fictional Mystic Falls.

The show's overnight ratings have slipped off over the years, but it still does very well once you count DVR usage. The show's success also led to a spinoff "The Originals," which debuted this past fall and pulls in good numbers (at least good numbers for the CW.)

The network also renewed "Supernatural," "Reign" and "Arrow," indicated how the network has thrived on youth-oriented sci-fi.
