Fox 5 (WAGA-TV) has decided to hire from within for its new news director. Scott Stucky, who has been with the station for 22 years.

Stucky was most recently the senior executive producer of news. Other jobs he’s held over the years: news operations manager, executive producer of weekend newscasts, supervising producer of “Good Day Atlanta” and newscast producer. He previously worked at the Fox station in Raleigh.

He replaces Mike McClain, who took over as general manager for a Fox affiliate in Charlotte after eight years as the news director at Fox 5.

Ken Cook, chief meteorologist for WAGA who worked with Stucky for 18 years until he retired in 2014, called Stucky "very level headed, with good news judgment and very much a people person."
