With extra time on his hands, Sam Champion is returning to his old haunt "Good Morning America" for the week of January 11 to do fill-in duty.

Champion, who was the morning weather guy at GMA from 2006 to 2013, will take over for Ginger Zee, his successor, who just had a baby.

He left GMA at the end of 2013 to take over the morning show in Atlanta at the Weather Channel in March, 2014. But his stint there lasted only about 18 months and he is going to do a weekly prime-time show instead for the network. The start date for that show, which will be based out of New York, has not been announced.

Senior meteorologist Rob Marciano will fill in for Ginger for the remainder of her maternity leave.

According to the ABC press release touting his reunion:

During that show, Champion was presented with an award for one of the show's funniest moments in its history, the moment Stephanopolous mistakenly introduced Champion's weather segment by saying, "Look at this shrimp on a treadmill..."

"I'd like to thank you, George," Champion said when accepting his trophy on the 40th anniversary show.
