A new restaurant set to open in Midtown is expected to include live entertainment in a partnership with the owners of the Punchline Comedy Club, according to a story in WhatNowAtlanta.
Chef Nicholas Lambrou is planning to take over the former Broadway Diner off North Ave. and Peachtree Street and naming it "Peachtree & North."
Lambrou told WhatNowAtlanta that he hopes the space will contribute to and complement the culture of the area. It's next door to the Fox Theatre and a few blocks south of the Laughing Skull Comedy Lounge. Lambrou didn't say what "live entertainment" would entail but the Punchline - currently located in a 200-seat capacity lounge space at the Landmark Diner in Buckhead - focuses primarily on stand-up comedy.
In an email to me, Lambrou declined to comment about details regarding the restaurant and live entertainment beyond the following: "I spoke with our organization’s board governance regarding your questions and they have informed me that we are not releasing any information at this time, but a press release will be published soon. Thank you."
At the Broadway Diner space, there was nothing going on Wednesday morning in terms of construction. The WhatNowAtlanta story did not say when the restaurant will open in its new incarnation.
Jamie Bendall, an owner of the Punchline, did not return calls and texts seeking comment. The Punchline was located in Sandy Springs off Roswell Road for more than 30 years before closing down in 2015 when much of its parking was turned into condos. It moved to Landmark later in the year. The old Punchline space is now a bridal store.
