"Real Housewives of Atlanta" cast member Kandi Burruss can finally call herself a "housewife." She married Todd Tucker Friday at Le Fais Do Do, a venue just west of downtown Atlanta.
Burruss' spokeswoman Tresa Sanders was at the wedding and told me Burruss' mother Mama Joyce was on her best behavior and even gave them a lovely toast.
The wedding was filmed by Bravo for an upcoming special. The series itself is nearing the end of its sixth season, its most popular to date.
Kandi and Todd met during a taping of "Real Housewives of Atlanta" in 2011 season four when they were in South Africa. Todd was part of the production crew. They have been tight ever since. On the show, Mama Joyce has been generating a lot of drama, expressing her deep disapproval of Todd. She has called him an "opportunist" without any real evidence to show for it. In 2012, Kandi moved to a new home with her teen-age daughter and Todd moved in with her.
On the show, Kandi avoided confronting her willful mom about the tensions between her and Todd. In frustration, Todd was last seen telling her to go to therapy individually and with her mom to resolve this else they might go splitsville. Obviously, the couple has come to some agreement about her mom because the marriage finally happened - and she was there.
Straight From the A's Michelle Brown got some of the skinny. Her bridesmaids included Rasheeda ("Love & Hip Hop Atlanta"), "American Idol" winner Fantasia and fellow Xscape singer Tameka "Tiny" Cottle Harris ("T.I. and Tiny"). She said the theme was "Coming to America" with attendees required to include some sort of purple in their attire.
"Real Housewives of Atlanta" cast mates Cynthia Bailey, Phaedra Parks and Porsha Williams attended. NeNe Leakes is shooting "Dancing With the Stars" in Los Angeles and Kenya Moore is in New York taping "Celebrity Apprentice" so neither were able to make it.
Straight From the A also reported other attendees included Derek J and Miss Lawrence from"Fashion Queens," Keshia Knight Pulliam (isn't she on "Celebrity Apprentice" too?), Musiq Soulchild, Tamar Braxton, Toya Wright, Stevie J and Benzino.
The venue Le Fais Do-Do typically charges $3,500 for a 10-hour rental on Friday nights for weddings. Kandi held a bachelorette party at Compound March 29, which included Monyetta Shaw (ex-fiance of Ne Yo), Porsha Williams and Phaedra Parks. Kandi at that party wore a sparkly pink dress with a "Bachelorette" sash and crown.
