Jeffree Charles, the Slow Jams evening jock on Kiss 104.1 from 1994 to 2001, is hosting a new evening radio show, this time on Mix 87.7, which plays R&B songs from the 1980s to today.

He starts December 26, the day after Christmas, from 7 p.m. to midnight. This is a new position.

The station just shifted from Old School 87.7, which played more 1970s and '80s music and no current songs. It also recently moved Porsche Foxx, its only local jock at that point, to mornings, replacing syndicated Russ Parr.

Charles, after he lost his job at Kiss in 2001, worked at AM gospel station WYZE for two years, then spent seven years doing traffic at Westwood One until 2010. In 2012, he became an elementary school teacher with a focus on kids with autism. For now, he said he will juggle both jobs.

He credits Mix saleswoman Vanessa Arrington for recommending him to Mix. She used to work at Kiss when he was on air, he said. "I am grateful they're giving me a shot," he said.
