Atlanta-based Bounce TV has hired Frank Ski as a consultant and future on-air talent.
"His on-air role will be determined," said spokesman Jim Weiss. "It's nice to have someone with his background and connections. The notion is to be in the Frank Ski business and have him in the Bounce TV business."
Ski, for reasons I can't determine, called my colleague Jenn Brett to break the news rather than me.
Since Ski left WHUR-FM in D.C. last fall after a two-year run, he has been back in Atlanta DJing, producing and hosting events, awaiting his next radio opportunity. (He is out of the restaurant business.) In the interim, getting some work with a major TV network can't hurt. Ski was a morning host at top-rated V103 before leaving voluntarily at the end of 2012. He sought a syndicated deal but couldn't find an arrangement that worked for him.
Bounce TV - with support from Andrew Young and Martin Luther King III and run by Turner vet Jonathan Katz and Ryan Glover - is a broadcast network that can be seen without a cable subscription. It's been around five years and has built up an impressive reach, often bringing in bigger audiences than cable networks targeting similar audiences such as Centric and TV One.
It has a slate of original programming that includes stand up ("Off the Chain") and sitcoms ("Family Time," "Mann & Wife") plus acquired films and TV shows such as "The Bernie Mac Show" and "A Different World." It airs the Atlanta-based Trumpet Awards tonight. Films it's airing today include "Mr. 3000," "Bustin' Loose" and "Another 48 Hours." The network's first scripted drama "Saints & Sinners" debuts in March.
