UPDATE: Tracy Morgan has announced he has cancelled his Tabernacle show June 5 due to an unspecified "scheduling conflict." You can get refunds at point of purchase.
Tracy Morgan, one year removed from "30 Rock," is focusing on his stand-up comedy lately. He aired a successful Comedy Central special last month and is touring the nation now, hitting Atlanta's Tabernacle June 5. (Buy tickets here.)
He's now dating a model Megan Wollover and raising a young daughter with her. The AJC caught him about to go to the dentist but in good spirits.
On being a daddy to a daughter for the first time: "I have three sons but I didn't have money when they were young. I was always on the road. I had to keep the lights on. I was limited. They said they didn't mind, they understood. Love is love. I love my boys and my boys love me. I'm more hands on with my daughter."
On his current comedy tour: "People are embracing me, allowing me to be me. Some are hating. That's fine. That comes with anything. That happened with Richard Pryor, the messiah. Not all the time people will relate to what I'm doing. I'm fine with that. I'm cool with that.
His thoughts on Donald Sterling: "If I owned the L.A. Clippers for 30 years and lost as much as they did, I'd hate black people, too!"
His stand-up audience today: "They're more mature. At least some of them. Some of them still get creeped out when I talk about sex or fornication or whatever."
Videotaping his live show: "It's annoying. I don't understand why people do that. People want to voice their opinions on my comedy before it's a finished product. So I open my show asking people not to do it. People seem to be taping everything now. Two years ago, when someone was pushed in front of a train, people taped it. That's horrible. That's sick!"
On Atlanta: "I love Atlanta. It's the hippest place to play. Last time I was there, we sold out and they laughed at everything. That's what I dig. They allowed me to be me. That's what it's all about."
On hosting a late-night show: "I"d consider it if someone would consider me. But why would anyone consider me? I don't look like a typical boy-next-door type. I look like the type of guy you don't want living next door. I don't think people would take me seriously."
On Jay Mohr's hilarious imitation of Tracy: "I've never seen it. We're still friends. We see each other every now and then. But in show business, you don't get to see your friends that much."
