92.9/The Game mid-day host Randy Cross was let go today, two well-placed sources informed me.
I have not gotten confirmation from Terry Foxx, the program director, and I have no word on his replacement.
I also have no idea why he was released. I will update this when I get more information.
After three years in the morning slot, the former NFL offensive linesman was moved to mid-days this fall after Jamie Dukes left. He had been paired with Rick Kamla.
For his time at UCLA, Cross was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2011. He played for the San Francisco 49ers from 1976 to 1988 with three Super Bowl championships under his belt.
The Alpharetta resident was also a morning host at 640/WGST-AM for a brief time in the early 2000s. He has also been a football analyst for CBS Sports, NBC, Inside College Football and NFL Today.
He was part of the original lineup on the Game since the sports talk station launched in October, 2012. With Cross' departure, only three broadcasters from the original lineup remain: Kamla, Carl Dukes and Mitch Evans.
The Game has struggled to put together a consistent line up over its three-year life span. Ratings have picked up this past year though the Fan (at 93.7 FM and AM 680) has remained a strong rival despite arguably weaker signal reach.
