CNN's Don Lemon apologizes for comments made to Cosby accuser

Nov 19, 2014

CNN anchor Don Lemon today apologized for what many felt was an insensitive line of questioning last night to a woman who has accused Bill Cosby of drugging and raping her when she was 19.

Joan Tarshis last night said he forced her to do oral sex on him. "You know, there are ways not to perform oral sex if you didn't want to do it," he said.

‘”I was kind of stoned at the time and, quite honestly, that didn’t even enter my mind. Now I wish it would have,” Tarshis replied.
“Meaning the using of the teeth as a weapon, right?” he said, adding the more specific phrase, "biting" for emphasis.

Tarshis, decades removed from the incident, responded simply, "Ouch." She added, "It didn't cross my mind."

Lemon phrased his apology today in a way that leads you to believe he doesn't really feel like he was insensitive but felt obligated to make said apology because of the social media uproar.

“I would never want to suggest that any victim could have prevented a rape. If my question to her [Tarshis] struck anyone as insensitive, I am sorry, as that was certainly not my intention,” Lemon said.

Lemon, who himself has said he is a victim of childhood sexual abuse, moved to New York last year after several years working in Atlanta.
