Atlanta-based TNT executives should be happy with the ratings of "The Last Ship" last night, which opened at a promising 5.3 million viewers with a good swath of younger people checking it out, too. With the repeat later that night, it drew more than 7.3 million total viewers and DVR usage will boost those numbers as well.

It was the biggest opening for any basic cable drama this year.

Now TNT will have to see if it can hold those numbers in coming weeks. If so, TNT has itself a real hit on its hands.
