FX's 'Archer" for five seasons operated a spy agency called ISIS but thanks to the real-life Jihadist group using the same acronym, the Atlanta-produced show is killing off the acronym in their fictional world.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news Saturday.
The satirical animated show used the name International Secret Intelligence Service and referenced ISIS all the time. But now that the acronym is attached to a radical terrorist group, "Archer" creators are wisely retiring the name when season 6 starts next year.
Since the fictional world "Archer" lives in does not remotely resemble the real world, there won't be any plot contrivances to explain the name change, according to the Hollywood Reporter story.
"[ISIS is] just the most awful thing, and we didn't want to have anything to do with it," executive producer Matt Thompson added.
In a separate email inquiry, Thompson added:
We deal with the ISIS thing right in the first minutes of the first episode of the new season. Basically, we have become subcontractors for the CIA and we will no longer mention the ISIS acronym. We even see the logo being rolled out of the building. We have been moving towards this anyway with the emergence of CIA agent Slater in our series. He will have a bigger role this season, giving us our missions here and there. And we are enjoying watching Malory squirm underneath someone else's control.
