Atlanta native and actress Raven-Symoné is joining ABC's troubled "The View," replacing the Rosie O'Donnell, whose second tenure on the show was even shorter than her first.
Whoopi Goldberg, the longest-running member of the show, announced Raven's new role this morning. Raven, 29, is best known as her roles on "The Cosby Show" and Disney's "That's So Raven." She's had a bit of a lull in her career in recent years but nabbed a notable role on Fox's runaway hit "Empire" earlier this year.
According to People magazine: "I remember coming to show with the Cheetah Girls when I was 15," and said, "I'm very happy to be sitting with these smart, talented mentors." After that she presented some tasty gifts – bacon and sweets for several of the panelists and potato chips and watermelon for Goldberg, 59.
She had already guest hosted 37 times prior to the announcement.
"Raven is smart, funny and genuine. We've loved getting to know her, and we're all thrilled she'll be part of 'The View' every day," said Executive Producer Bill Wolff in a press release. "She brings a fresh perspective on the hot topics of the day, and she's a lively, welcome addition to our conversations and interviews."
"Raven-Symoné is a welcome addition to 'The View,'" said creator and Executive Producer Barbara Walters. "She is happy, amusing and well informed, and has already brought a unique perspective to the program that has resonated with our audience."
