About 44.6 percent of all metro Atlanta household TVs on Sunday afternoon were tuned to the Atlanta Falcons thrashing of the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championhip Game on Fox 5.

That equates to about 2.8 million metro Atlantans. Nationally, the game drew around 46 to 47 million viewers. (A more accurate figure will be available later in the day.) Last year's NFC game between the Panthers and Cardinals drew 45.7 million.

The Super Bowl numbers in two weeks will certainly be far greater. Nationally, it usually draws 105 to 110 million viewers. Locally, the number could exceed 4 million out of 6.2 million total Atlantans in the entire area.

About 1.6 million metro Atlantans caught the AFC Championship game on CBS Sunday evening. The national number was about the same as the NFC game at about 47 million.

Both games yesterday were blowouts, which may have depressed viewership. The much closer AFC Championship Game between the Broncos and Patriots a year ago drew a bigger audience.
