Prescription opioid medication was found on Prince and in his Minnesota home, according to a report from CNN .
The news channel cited a law enforcement official as the source of the information.
The pills are commonly used to treat pain; some of the deceased singer’s friends have said Prince took Percocet to alleviate pain in his hips caused by years of vigorous performing.
Authorities have also asked for help from the Drug Enforcement Administration to determine where the medication(s) came from and what prescriptions Prince had obtained.
Investigators told CNN that they believe the health scare that caused Prince's private plane to make an emergency landing following his two concerts at Atlanta's Fox Theatre, was likely the result of a reaction to the pain medication.
Although Prince’s publicist said at the time that the singer was suffering from dehydration after battling the flu for several weeks, fire and ambulance records released Wednesday noted that paramedics responded to a call of an “unresponsive passenger” on Prince’s flight.
The records released by the city of Moline, Ill., where Prince's plane detoured, said that paramedics worked to revive Prince before taking him to the hospital where, sources told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the musician was given a shot of the opioid antidote Narcan.
Prince died April 21 after being found in an elevator in his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota. A four-hour autopsy was performed by the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office in Ramsey, Minn., on April 22, but results aren’t expected to be revealed for weeks.
