Madonna's tribute to Prince on last night's Billboard Music Awards was critiqued with the usual level of venom by social media scribes ( our poll is 85 percent thumbs down on the performance ), causing the singer to respond in a diplomatic fashion.

But a second post includes a video from Madonna doing her "don't hang your s*** on me" dance, so the backlash obviously irritated her a bit.

The BET Awards threw some shade at Madonna, too, with an ad for their upcoming awards show.

"Yeah, we saw that. Don't worry. We got you," it said by way of promoting its Prince tribute on the June 26 show.

Madonna, if you missed it, performed Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U" and was later joined by Stevie Wonder for a crowd sing-along of "Purple Rain."
