Atlanta rapper Killer Mike publicly supported Bernie Sanders during the presidential primary, actively campaigning for the Vermont senator and grabbing lunch with him at the Busy Bee during a Sanders visit to Atlanta last fall.
Now that Killer Mike – aka Michael Render – doesn’t have a candidate in the presidential race, who will he support?
Not Donald Trump OR Hillary Clinton, he says.
TMZ caught up with the rapper at LAX on Thursday and asked a couple of quick political questions.
(Scroll down for video.)
Mike said of Trump’s cryptic comments this week that “Second Amendment people” could take action against Clinton, “He’s bats*** crazy, but I don’t think he would call for the assassination of another presidential candidate.”
As for Trump’s other claim that President Obama is the founder of ISIS, Mike first laughed and said, “You know what I’m upset about? All of the beautiful black girls in the ‘hood named Isis who now have to deal with that bulls***.”
But the politically-minded Mike turned serious for a longer response:
"I just think that's crazy, but (Trump's) not the only one that said it. I mean, not said that, but said crazy stuff. If you listen to Fox News, you hear the wildest s*** every day. So, my thing is, Donald Trump, essentially, is repeating the same stuff I hear when I watch Fox News, so I'm not surprised by it, but I don't think our president–but I do think our government has done a great job at destabilizing countries and creating enemies….All of us, as citizens, need to kind of get over our classisms and vote for the betterment of us all."
Mike will perform in Atlanta with his Run the Jewels partner El-P Oct. 1 at the Project Pabst festival in East Atlanta Village.
