Ready to “Roar,” NFL fans?
Katy Perry has been tapped as the halftime entertainment for the 2015 Super Bowl, according to Billboard.
The news – which the NFL has so far declined to comment on – isn’t a huge surprise since Perry was one of a trio of marquee Top 40 stars speculated to perform since August, when word leaked of the NFL’s ridiculous plan to charge artists for the honor of performing at the game.
Perry got the nod over Rihanna and Coldplay and, we assume, is doing it on her terms since the hit machine appeared on ESPN's “College Game Day” last Saturday and commented, "I'm not the kind of girl who would pay to play the Super Bowl."
Perry's solid catalog of hits ("Firework," "Teenage Dream," "Part of Me," "Dark Horse," "California Gurls" among them) and her sexy-but-not-salacious image make her a sensible choice. And, if her halftime performance is a fraction as entertaining as her full live show – still the best I've seen this year – then not many of the 100 million-plus viewers who typically tune in will be making too many beer runs.
