Joey Feek of the husband and wife country duo Joey + Rory died Friday afternoon after a public battle with cervical cancer.
Feek, 40, and her family lived in Nashville, but spent the past few months in her hometown of Alexandria, Ind.
The Feeks' career started rolling after their third-place finish on the CMT show, "Can You Duet," in 2008. That same year, they signed to Sugar Hill/Vanguard Records and released their debut, "The Life of a Song," which spawned the country hit, "Cheater, Cheater."
Joey + Rory were nominated for a Grammy last month for "If I Needed You" in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category; Little Big Town won.

On Friday evening, Sugar Hill Records expressed their sorrow at Joey's passing with a reminder of this video from 2012 for the song "When I'm Gone."
